Anton Koster initially painted and etched cityscapes and dune landscapes. But from 1885 onwards, at the age of 25, Koster specialised in painting the flowering tulip fields in the Dutch bulb-region. Anton Koster excelled at his trade, and sold his works successfully. His fellow-painters nicknamed him Anton Tulip.
His paintings travelled to the far corners of the world, as illustrations for the bulb-trade sales catalogues and as a gift from the flower bulb-traders; to the old Russia from before 1917, to the USA and other countries where the bulb-trade flourished.
