Ben Walrecht was educated at the art academy in Groningen. After he finished his studies, he established his own advertising agency. Apart from that, he worked as a painter. In 1936, he joined the artist movement De Ploeg, and ion that capacity joined in several De Ploeg-exhibitions. He traveled abroad, to France and Scandinavia, and developed his own style of painting, which is best described as a brisk, fresh impressionistic style. He paints his landscapes and portraits with a confidence and a zingy boldness that was especially innovative at the time. Walrecht was also a great lover of making sculptures.
