About Wouterus Verschuur

Wouterus Verschuur was the essential animal painter, with an emphasis on horses and dogs. He was taught by Jan van Os and was heavily influenced by the works of Philip Wouwerman. Verschuur’s work shows references to Wouwerman through his compositions and furbishings: the stable with open doors for a backdrop, a dappled grey for an eyecatcher, horses seen from every thinkable angle and dogs and chickens rummaging around.
