About Willem Maris

Willem Maris was a student of his older brothers, Jacob and Matthijs Maris, with whom he shared an atelier in The Hague. Willem Maris lived and worked in respectively Oosterbeek, Paris, Amsterdam and The Hague. Maris painted predominantly landscapes, animated with cattle and ponds with ducks. He saw himself as a painter of light, the light-effects where the main theme for him in his paintings. Hence he was named the impressionist of the Hague ...
