More about Marc MuldersOil on canvas 60 x 110 cm, signed lower right with initial Annotation on the reverse: 'Marc M Garden Memories 05 01 24'.
Marc Mulders completed this painting in early 2024. The artist works in a fantastic studio on the estate Baest, surrounded by flower meadows. His garden would undoubtedly have looked very different then, but as the title - Garden memories - says, Mulders was inspired for this painting by his memories of lush blooming flowers. And his longing for spring. He hopes that this will prove to be a key work, because he wants to continue on this path. Mulders wants to take his garden and flower borders as the starting point for his work even more than usual.Mulders is a great admirer of Willem de Kooning. For Mulders, the way in which De Kooning painted women is equivalent to 'kneading and sculpting with paint'. That tactility is important to Mulders. Like De Kooning, Mulders wants to be able to paint freely and uninhibited, but with the flower as leading. In this case the Iris.Marc Mulders, a religious man, is fascinated by major themes such as life and death, good and evil. For him, flowers represent the transience of life. Mulders shows them in all their vulnerability, but at the same time they are painted powerfully and dynamically, almost even impetuously. And despite the soft pastel shades, this painting radiates strength and movement. Pasty paint strokes dance on the canvas in a colorful, indefinable floral space.
