Lodewijk Johannes Kleijn was a student of Andreas Schelfhout, and some of Schelfhout’s manner rubbed off on him; he painted many scenes of wintery fun with people frolicking on the ice. But his sunny landscapes and beach-scenes are equally delightful, since Kleijn had the extraordinary gift of grasping the sunny serenity of a summer’s day.
