About Kees van Bohemen
Kees van Bohemen was born in 1928 in The Hague. He continued to work, live and study in this city. Kees van Bohemen did however stay in Paris in the period from 52 to 57. Together with Bram Bogart, Karel Appel and Corneille, they lived in an old warehouse on Rue Santeuil. Van Bohemen was very open to innovation. In 59 he was part of the informal group, with ao. Jan Schoonhoven. In the sixties he collaborated with zero art, which was internationally oriented. In his work he always kept a certain tension between figuration and abstraction. Something that can be seen in his entire oeuvre. Color and shape have always been the most important thing for Kees. His work can be seen in the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague and the Boijmans in Rotterdam.
