About Germ de Jong
Germ de Jong received his training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. In his early years, he primarily painted landscapes in subdued and dark colors. De Jong made several study trips abroad and worked in Paris for some time. He greatly admired the work of the French artist Odilon Redon. Germ de Jong painted French landscapes, interiors, and portraits, and was praised for his (flower) still lifes. In 1937, De Jong received the Silver Medal of the City of Paris, and in 1949, the Art Medal. In 1956, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam organized a retrospective exhibition of Germ de Jong's work.
