Gerardine van de Sande Bakhuyzen comes from a well-known family of painters. Her father Hendrik was a well-known animal painter in the tradition of the 17th century, and her brother Julius a prominent landscape painter. Under the influence of Margaretha Roosenboom, Gerardine van de Sande Bakhuyzen painted beautiful flower and fruit still lifes, for which she received rave reviews for the smooth brushstrokes and the use of warm colors.
