Geer van Velde

1898 - 1977

Geer van Velde – like his brother Bram – was educated as a decorative painter. In 1925, the brothers both moved to Paris, to seek further development as an artist. In Paris, Geer became acquainted with fauvism and cubism. Initally, he made colourful, expressionist landscapes, figures and still-lifes. But after 1938, this changed, radically.

Geer van Velde developed this authentic, personal, abstract-geometric imagery, whereby perceived images were transformed into a balanced and mostly geometrical interplay of lines. His big breakthrough happened in 1946 after he got the opportunity to exphibit his works at the Maeght Gallery in Parijs. Van Velde is one of the important painters of post-war Ecole de Paris.

Currently we don't have paintings by Geer van Velde in our collection.
