About Elchanon Verveer

Elchanon Verveer lived and worked in The Hague. He started out his artistic career as a wood engraver. He was taught how to paint by his brother, Samuel Verveer. Later he attended the Hague Academy of Decorative Arts. The two brothers with their Romantic style, exercised a vast influence on the later Hague School-movement. Elchanon Verveer was one of the first painters who showed the emotional side of the rough-fishing trade.
