David Artz left for Paris after his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. After a fleeting Paris adventure, David Artz decided to return to the Netherlands and settled in The Hague in 1874. He did, however, make a few study trips abroad to Scotland, Germany, England and Italy.
David Artz received advice from Jozef Israels, among others. His oeuvre often includes performances derived from fishing life. His work is in the possession of the Haags Gemeentemuseum and Museum Boymans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, among others.
