Abraham Hulk a talented marine painter

Abraham Hulk studied at the Amsterdam Academy and was taught by the portrait painter J.A. daiwaille. Abraham Hulk began, entirely in the vein of his teacher, by painting portraits, but developed into a very skilled marine painter from the Romantic School. His atmospheric compositions with Dutch sailing ships at sea were especially popular. Hulk made some foreign trips to America and returned to his native London after 1870. His work can, among others, be found in the Teylers Museum in Haarlem.
